Communal Living Recipes: Kamal Masi’s Rose Rice Pudding

As we get older, we find comfort in being with our friends, family, and neighbors. One of the most fun pastimes is cooking, especially with family recipes!


Kamal Masi's Rose Rice Pudding


  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 4-6 teaspoons rose water
  • 3 drops red food coloring
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/4 tablespoon crushed cardamom seeds
  • 1/4 tablespoon crushed cloves
  • 1 1/4 cup of raisins
  • 5-6 rose petals (garnish)


  • 1. Wash rice and place into a pot with water. Once the water begins to boil, reduce to low heat, cover, and simmer until rice is soft.
  • 2. Mix the cooked rice and food coloring in a mixing bowl until the rice is evenly colored.
  • 3. Add crushed cloves, crushed cardamom, raisins, and rosewater.
  • 4. Place mixture into small bowls and refrigerate for 3 hours.
  • 5. Before serving, drizzle honey on top of each bowl and garnish each serving with rose petals.
  • Enjoy!
